Worthwhile Conversations

I find myself holding on to the drunken memories

  that I've had all weekend

Whether with old friends, fresh faces, or total strangers

Over warm up shots, late night beers, or morning coffees

  there were a few good laughs, worthwhile conversations, and "remember when..." talks

  that capture the audiences of all ears

Summed up with a "cheers" the drinks, and the weekends are devowered 

Changing Years

Friends always change with the weather

My calendars change years every Fall

Summertime friends drop like leaves from a tree

A few calls or short weekend visits

 Let them hang on by the stalk

But they slowly break off

They are blown away with the cold winter winds

 And every Spring a few less return

Fall is moving in

The cool weather creeps in and stirs the creatures around it

The sun slides behind the mountains

No more sweat-drenched days for a while now

But the blazed trees of reds, yellows, and oranges still keep us warm

These fall flames are closing windows and killing spirits

For some reason, however; I feel more alive than ever
